Robert Morris Drops Non-Conference Match to UMBC

Antonia Grese scored the Colonials’ lone goal in the 58th minute, her first of the season

Baltimore, Md. – The Robert Morris University women's soccer team dropped the second game of a four-match road trip as it fell to University of Maryland, Baltimore County, 6-1, this evening from Retriever Soccer Park.

Trailing 3-0 in the 58th minute, Robert Morris (2-8-0, 0-0-0 NEC) regained possession around midfield after a long clear and chipped it forward towards senior midfielder Antonia Grese. Grese one-touched it behind to junior midfielder Kasia Bak, who then slotted a through pass up back to the third-year Moon Township native. She took a couple of dribbles forward to catch the UMBC (4-5-0, 0-0-0 America East) goalkeeper out of position, before rifling a shot towards the far post for her first goal of the season.

The Retrievers received a pair of goals from Alexa Quaranta and saw Rayven Conner provide a four-point (1g, 2a) night.

Freshman midfielder Kristina Kelley generated a team-high five shots, while Bak attempted four.

Fifth-year goalkeeper Makenzie Shearson made three saves in 76 minutes of action. Junior netminder Serena Donmoyer stopped one shot in the final 14 minutes.

Robert Morris begins Northeast Conference (NEC) play next Friday, Sept. 30 at 4:00 p.m. against Bryant University. The teams' last meeting was a memorable one, as the Colonials defeated the Bulldogs, 2-1, to advance to the 2015 NEC Championship.
