Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Akron Zips Past Colonials

Akron, Ohio – The Robert Morris University women's soccer team snapped out of its scoring lull but still suffered a 5-2 loss to the Akron Zips at FirstEnergy Stadium in Akron, Ohio, Thursday night. The match ends a four-match road trip for the Colonials and leaves them at 0-6 on the season. Akron, playing its home opener after five games on the road to open the season, evens its mark at 3-3.

Freshman Jane Schleicher finished the match with a goal and an assist, the first points of her collegiate career. Greer Monahan got her first marker of the season and Maddison Duncan recorded an assist. Chloe Allen had three goals for the host Zips and Sarah Sivic accounted for the other two scores.

Sivic took advantage of a penalty kick in the game's 12th minute to put Akron on top to stay. She made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute, burying a direct kick opportunity from about 20 yards away.

Schleicher then set up Monahan just over a minute later, snapping the team's 336-minute long scoreless streak to cut the margin to one goal.

Akron was able to push the lead to 4-1 before halftime, scoring twice in the final four minutes of the first half after a weather delay halted play. Allen sent a shot off a defender and in during the 42nd minute before taking advantage of a defensive miscue and scoring with 14 seconds left in the first half.

Duncan set Schleicher free with a long ball down the middle of the field in the 63rd minute for the Colonial's second goal of the game. Allen finished off her hat trick just over five minutes later when she buried a cross from Erica Schrader.

The Colonials return to North Athletic Complex for the first time since Aug. 21 when they host the Ohio Bobcats. The game is slated to start at 1:00 p.m. this Sunday, Sept. 11.
