RMU Falls in Final Minutes at Central Connecticut

A goal in the 88th minute lifted Central Connecticut past visiting Robert Morris this afternoon

New Britain, Conn. – The Robert Morris University women's soccer team finished up a three-match road swing on a sour note, falling to Central Connecticut, 1-0, this afternoon in Northeast Conference (NEC) action.

Robert Morris (3-11-0, 1-4-0 NEC) couldn't manage to solve a tough Central Connecticut (7-7-0, 3-2-0 NEC) defense as the Blue Devils posted their third consecutive 1-0 shutout.

The Colonials tested the hosts early as Greer Monahan and Kasia Bak each generated shots over the opening four minutes. After an extended spell of possession for Central Connecticut, RMU responded with a Jane Schleicher attempt that was blocked away for a corner kick. After the cross by Maleha Kureishy, Schleicher forced Blue Devils goalkeeper Ashley Cavanaugh into a save in the 25th minute, followed by a Kristina Kelley shot on goal a minute later.

In the closing moments of the contest, Central Connecticut found a winner. Danielle Pearse played a touch pass ahead off a corner kick, leaving it for Lexi Kochin to bury in the 88th minute.

Sydney Bruckner made four saves in the defeat.

Robert Morris returns home on Friday, Oct. 20 at 3:00 p.m. as it hosts Fairleigh Dickinson for RMU Club Day.
