Offensive Prowess Continues for RMU in Rain-Shortened Finale

Kristina Kelley, Erin Ritzer, and Jane Schleicher all found the back of the net for RMU in its final game of the season

Staten Island, N.Y. – The Robert Morris University women's soccer team closed the 2017 season with a 3-0 victory at Wagner this afternoon in Northeast Conference (NEC) play.

Heavy rain and flooding forced an early stoppage at 70 minutes, but Robert Morris (6-11, 4-4 NEC) didn't let the elements affect its recent offensive prowess. The Colonials kept the Wagner (3-12-3, 0-7-1 NEC) defense on its toes with 14 shot attempts, 11 of those making it on target.

RMU opened the scoring in the fifth minute as Erin Ritzer banged home a rebound off an initial shot from Kristina Kelley. Kelley then added her own tally in the 29th minute on a breakaway, and Jane Schleicher finished things off in the 48th minute off a feed from Anni Varjonen.

Sydney Bruckner registered her third shutout of the season and second in the last two games, making four saves to earn the clean sheet.

Kelley finishes the season her name all through the program single-season record books. The sophomore tallied 25 points on nine goals and seven assists, placing herself in a tie for fourth, sixth, and second in those respective categories. Additionally, the duo of her and Schleicher completed the year with a combined 44 points (17g, 10a), which surpasses the record of 40 set by the 1998 pairing of Misha Gebhart and Jody Schuchert.

Six RMU seniors (Kasia Bak, Maddison Duncan, Kayla Kelley, Maleha Kureishy, Greer Monahan, Erin Ritzer) played their final collegiate games today.

Robert Morris finishes the season at 6-11 overall and 4-4 in the NEC.
