Â
New Britain, Conn. – The
Robert Morris University football team lost in its 2017 finale, 42-14, at Northeast Conference champion Central Connecticut State Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils become the first team to go unbeaten in NEC play since Albany in 2008 finishing the year 8-3 and 6-0 in the league.
Â
Cole Blake rushed 19 times for 82 yards to lead the Colonials offense.
Jimmy Walker went 16-30 for 191 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He found
Brandon Magee and
Tim Vecchio four times each. Magee had 60 yards and a touchdown and
Reggie Green collected the other scoring toss.
Â
Adam Wollet recorded 11 tackles to lead all players and finished the season with 108 stops. He's the first RMU defensive player to record over 100 tackles since Mike Cook had a team-record 117 in 2013.
David Steele had a career-best 10 tackles.
Â
After Central Connecticut took a 7-0 lead on a 13-yard rush by Cameron Nash, the Colonials put together their first scoring drive of the game.
Jimmy Walker hit
Eldin Anu down the left sideline for 37 yards before
Cole Blake went 12 yards around the right side. Walker then hit
Reggie Green with a dart from 18-yards out to tie the game, 7-7, at 1:27 of the first quarter.
Â
It was all Central Connecticut from that point as the Blue Devils rolled up 204 yards of offense in the second quarter. Nash scored the first of four consecutive touchdowns by CCSU when he rambled 50 yards down the left sideline. Jake Dolegala threw a pair of scoring passes, seven yards to Courtney Rush and 29 yards to Xavier Bass to push the margin to 28-7 at the half.
Â
Rush hauled in a 25-yarder from Dolegala on the first drive of the second half. RMU answered that score with a 12-play, 89-yard march that took up 6:44. Blake rushed for 33 yards on the drive, including carries of 13 yards and 24 yards, and caught a pass for five yards. Walker finished off the drive by hitting
Brandon Magee on a post route from 18 yards.
Â
The Blue Devils capped the scoring with 12:11 left in the fourth quarter as Rush picked up his third rushing touchdown of the game. Rush finished the day with 140 yards on the ground pushing him over 1,000 on the season. Dolegala threw for 182 yards becoming the all-time leader in passing yards at Central Connecticut in the process.
