Watertown, Mass. - Robert Morris University men's hockey dropped its second-straight contest, 6-3, to Bentley University on Saturday afternoon, in the final contest the Colonials will play at John A. Ryan Arena.
Trailing 2-0, Robert Morris scored three consecutive goals to take a 3-2 lead early in the third period, before Bentley battled back to take the victory.
For the second consecutive night, the Falcons opened the game with a pair of power play goals in the first period. Matt Riggleman and Kyle Schmidt did the damage on the man advantage to give Bentley a 2-0 lead at the end of one period.
Robert Morris came powering back in the second, opening the period with a power play goal of its own 90 seconds into the frame to cut the Falcons lead in half. Senior forward
Brady Ferguson and junior forward
Michael Louria combined on assists to feed
Alex Tonge the puck for the goal, the fourth of the season for the junior.Â
Less than four minutes later, freshman
Nick Jenny, making his NCAA debut, fired a puck on goal and freshman forward
Ryley Risling crashed the rebound a buried the puck to tie the game 2-2. The goal was the second of Risling's career and the assist earns Jenny his first NCAA point. Senior defenseman
Robert Powers also picked up an assist on the Risling tally, his sixth point of the season.
Tied at two apiece entering the third, Robert Morris grabbed its first lead of the weekend with Louria's second goal of the series and fifth of the season, putting home the pass from Ferguson to make it a 3-2 game. Sophomore
Luke Lynch picked up an assist on the play as well, his 15th point of the season. Louria finished the weekend with the team scoring lead with 16 points on 5 goals and 11 assists.
After scoring three straight goals to take the lead, Bentley quickly regained momentum. Two minutes after Louria's lamplighter, Brett Orr buried the equalizer, tying the game 3-3. The Falcons regained the lead with Colonial-killer Drew Callin, who scored his sixth goal in eight career games against RMU, to make it a 4-3 game. An RMU power play took a turn for the worse as Bentley's Michael Boyle added a shorthanded strike with four and a half minutes remaining, giving the Colonials a two-goal deficit with the clock winding down. The Falcons added an empty net goal to seal the Colonials fate with a 6-3 defeat.
Robert Morris and Bentley were even on shots on goal with 33 apiece. RMU was 1-for-5 on the power play while the penalty kill was 4-for-6.
Sophomore goaltender
Francis Marotte finished the game with 27 saves.
With a new facility scheduled to open in the spring, RMU pays a not-so-fond farewell to Bentley's John A. Ryan Arena (The JAR). The Colonials record in the JAR falls to 2-7-1.
Robert Morris (5-9-1, 5-7-1 AHC) heads to its first bye week of the season, returning to action on Friday, December 8 at 7:35pm against Penn State at PPG Paints Arena.
