Loretto, Pa. – The Robert Morris University men's soccer team dropped its regular season finale to Saint Francis U, 4-1, this afternoon in Northeast Conference (NEC) action from the Stokes Soccerplex.
With the loss, Robert Morris (4-10-1, 3-3-1 NEC) will serve as the fourth seed at next week's NEC Tournament. The Colonials qualified after an overtime victory this past Sunday against Sacred Heart, along with a Bryant defeat at St. Francis Brooklyn and a draw between LIU Brooklyn and Fairleigh Dickinson.
Bayley Winkel scored RMU's lone goal in the seventh minute, accomplishing a feat only matched by 10 other Colonials in the process. Roald Aas Ravlum caused a turnover just outside the 18 before playing it forward to Winkel, who slotted it home on the breakaway for his 10th goal of the season. He's the 11th player in program history to reach double-digit tallies, and the first to do so since Neco Brett in 2015.
Saint Francis U (10-8-0, 3-4-0 NEC) answered in the 25th minute with a goal from Mario Mastrangelo. The Red Flash took the lead in the 41st minute on a Nicco Mastrangelo header, and later added two more goals – one off a penalty kick – in the final 3:40 of the match.
Winter Fondi made nine saves in the defeat.
By appearing in the Starting XI, Jake Cooper became just the fifth player in school history to amass 70 games started over a career.
Robert Morris returns to the NEC Tournament for the second time in three seasons on Friday, Nov. 10 when it faces top-seeded St. Francis Brooklyn. Game time between the Colonials and Terriers is to be announced.
