Robert Morris Closes Regular Season with 5-1 Win at Heinz Field

Pittsburgh freshmen Coleman and Lynch each tally goals

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Robert Morris University men's hockey defeated Niagara University 5-1 to wrap up the Atlantic Hockey regular season.

Pittsburgh natives Luke Lynch (Shaler) and Jacob Coleman (Moon Township) each scored for Robert Morris. Coleman's third period goal was the first of his career and came after picking up two assists in the first two periods. The goal for Lynch was his ninth of the season.

Sophomore forward Brandon Watt opened the scoring 12:17 into the first period, off assists from Coleman and Sean Giles. Senior defenseman Rob Mann tallied his third goal of the season with just 22 seconds left in the first period, giving RMU a 2-0 lead after the opening twenty minutes.

Sam Rennaker scored for Niagara 4:14 into the second but that would be all for the Purple Eagles offense.

Lynch's goal came with less than four minutes to play in the second, putting the Colonials up 3-1 heading into the final frame. Alex Tonge punched in his 17th goal of the season midway through the third. Spencer Dorowicz earned his third assist of the night on Coleman's tally, with less than five minutes to go in the game.

Freshman goaltender Francis Marotte made 33 saves for his 14th win of the season, running his season save percentage to .936 with a 2.04 goals against average.

The Colonials finish the regular season with a 19-11-4 overall record, 15-10-3 in conference play. RMU has a bye week and will host Holy Cross in the second round of the conference playoffs on March 10-12.
