Moon Township, Pa. – Playing their third game in seven days, the Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team fell to Marquette University, 14-7, in non-conference action this afternoon from Joe Walton Stadium.
Robert Morris (4-3) scored three of the game's first four goals to go ahead early, but Marquette (2-3) regained the lead thanks to clean possessions and a strong performance in goal over the second and third quarters.
Carter Yepsen had an answer for Andy DeMichiei's opening tally, pulling the Colonials even at 1-1 early in the contest. Matt Schmidt then gave RMU the lead with his 11th goal of the season, and just 11 seconds later Trey Arnold scored off the face-off to make it 3-1.
Goals from John Wagner and Ryan McNamara deadlocked the score at 3-all after one quarter of play. Kyran Clarke then began the second quarter with a man-up goal, giving the Golden Eagles a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Adrian Torok-Orban scored his 13th goal of the season in the fourth quarter on a man-down chance, extending his point streak to 22 games. He is one of 25 players nationally to currently own a point streak of at least 20 games.
Tyson Gibson scored a pair of goals in the defeat. Alex Heger made 12 saves in 56:50 between the pipes.
RMU was 15-18 on clear attempts and turned the ball over just 12 times on the afternoon.
Robert Morris begins Northeast Conference (NEC) play on the road next Saturday, March 18 at noon against Sacred Heart.
