RMU Loses to North Carolina in Spring Break Finale

Mount Pleasant, S.C. – The Robert Morris University softball ended its spring break trip with a 10-3 loss to North Carolina at the Holy City Showdown hosted by the College of Charleston Sunday afternoon. The Colonials went 2-3 at the showdown and are now 5-16 overall. The Tar Heels improve to 21-5.

Olivia Lorusso went 2-3 on the day while Abrielle McCartney, Kristen Pray and Natalie Higgins all collected hits as well. Higgins lone hit, a single, drove in two runs while McCartney also plated a score with her single. Laura Coulter took the loss in the circle.

The Tar Heels Taylor Wike and Brittany Pickett each had two hits. Berlynne Delamora hit a two-run home run and Pickett had three runs batted in on a homer and a double. Pickett earned the victory, throwing 4.2 innings before being relieved by Hannah Nommensen.

UNC scored in each of the first four innings, getting one in the first before Pickett hit a two-run bomb in the second. Pickett doubled in another run in the third and Delamora's shot to right center scored two in the fourth.

Robert Morris did all its scoring in the third inning. An error and two hits led to three runs for the Colonials and cut the margin to 4-3 at the time. McCartney hit a 3-2 pitch to left field with bases loaded to score Gurganus. Later in the inning, Higgins slapped the first pitch she saw into right field to plate McCartney and Lorusso.

The Tar Heels tacked on a quartet of scores in the sixth inning, the biggest blow coming on a single by Leah Murray that scored a pair of runs.

The Colonials return to action next Saturday, March 18, when they begin play in the Towson Tournament with a doubleheader against Villanova.
