Fairfield, Ct. - Robert Morris University ends the regular season with a 16-15 loss at Sacred Heart. Sophomore
Maggie Stella led the Colonials in scoring with four goals, while freshman
Clio Kerr posted a career-high three goals while recording eight draw controls.
Freshman
Annie Sachs scored two goals to break a pair of RMU single-season records (points, goals). Sachs now holds single-season records of 73 points and 47 goals. Sachs entered the weekend as the fourth-highest scoring freshman in all of NCAA women's lacrosse and added 9 points to her season total.
Defensively, senior
Megan Wolfgang led the way with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Freshman
Meghan Crouse also caused three turnovers an picked up two ground balls as well as four draw controls.
Goalkeepers freshman
Katelyn Miller (11-5) and sophomore
Sarah Arnold split time in goal, with Arnold taking the loss in the second half. Miller was credited with three saves and a ground ball, with Arnold making two saves.
Robert Morris held a 8-6 lead at the end of the first half. The Colonials took a 2-0 lead before the Pioneers went on a 6-1 run to take a 6-3 lead. Robert Morris scored four goals to close the half (Kerr (2), Stella (2),
Dominique Zigo), and added two more to start the second half (Kerr, Zolis).
After RMU took a 10-6 lead, SHU started to chip away. The Pioneers tied the game at 12 with 18:49 remaining and were able to outscore the Colonials 4-3 the rest of the way. RMU scored what appeared to be a game-tying goal at the final horn but the officials ruled that time had expired and there was no goal.
Freshmen
Thalia Zolis and
Mackenzie Gandy each scored a goal and two assists, recording a draw control apiece.
Niki Grillon picked up a goal, an assist and three draw controls. A total of 27 players participated in the game for Robert Morris.
The Colonials (11-6, 5-2 NEC) head to the Northeast Conference postseason tournament as the No. 2 seed and will face No. 3 Wagner in the semifinals on Friday, May 5 at 4:00pm on the campus of host Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island. No. 1 Bryant will take on No.4 Sacred Heart, as the Pioneers clinched the final postseason spot with a win and a loss by Mount St. Mary's.
