Fort Wayne, Ind. – A pair of second half goals weren't enough for the Robert Morris University women's soccer team as it fell to Fort Wayne, 4-2, this afternoon in the Colonials' final non-conference test of the regular season.
Robert Morris (2-7-0, 0-0-0 NEC) provided itself with plenty of scoring chances, registering nine shots on goal and 19 attempts in total. However, Fort Wayne (1-8-0, 0-0-0 Summit League) capitalized on two early shots to seize the early momentum and carry it through most of the duration.
Kendall Quinn collected an early brace for the Mastodons, scoring in the eighth and ninth minutes. Fort Wayne made it 3-0 with a Deanna Hecht tally in the 28th minute, and added another courtesy of Hecht in the 49th minute.
RMU dented the scoreboard in the 67th minute with Erin Ritzer's first goal since Oct. 21, 2016. Kristina Kelley played a pass towards the right post, giving Ritzer enough space to chip the Mastodons goalkeeper and make it 4-1.
Jane Schleicher cut the deficit in half in the 71st minute. Keirsten Van Horn lofted it to Kelley in the box, who then headed it backwards to the junior forward. Schleicher then let the ball settle before ripping a shot just inside the far post for her fifth goal of the season.
Schleicher and Kelley combined for 12 of the Colonials' 19 shot attempts.
Robert Morris is back in action on Friday, Sept. 29 when it begins Northeast Conference (NEC) play at home against Bryant.
