Winthrop, Mass. - Robert Morris University men's hockey forward
Alex Tonge has been named the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Month, the league announced Thursday.
Tonge led both the NCAA and Atlantic Hockey in scoring in the month of January, averaging 2.20 points per game. The junior averaged a goal per game with five goals in five games played.
Tonge was second in the league in overall points with 11 points on 5 goals and 6 assists in just 5 games played. He played in 4 less games than 12-point scorer Brian Sienerth of Mercyhurst and four other 11-point scorers. Tonge's five goals came on ten shots, giving the Kingston native a .500 shooting percentage, also an NCAA-best mark.
The junior forward had a plus-five rating with a pair of power play goals and assists to lead Atlantic Hockey in power play points with four. Tonge also recorded two game-winning goals, including the overtime-winner over Bentley on January 19, helping RMU to a 3-1-1 record in January.
This is the first monthly honor Tonge's career. Tonge follows only
