Milne-Price Breaks Robert Morris Shutout Record

Colonials Offense Unable to Provide Support in Opener

ERIE, Pa. -- Senior goalie Elijah Milne-Price left the Mercyhurst Ice Center owning an incredible piece of Robert Morris women's hockey team history, which, unfortunately, was all the Colonials (17-7-4, 11-3-3) could take with them in a 2-0 loss to the College Hockey America (CHA) rival Lakers (14-13-4, 11-3-3).

The Mississauga, Ontario native and former Mississauga Jr. Chiefs standout was named CHA Goaltender of the Week Monday for posting back-to-back shutouts against conference counterpart Lindenwood, becoming just the third RMU goaltender ever to put up consecutive zeroes, and the first since Class of '17 teammate Jessica Dodds Oct. 31-Nov. 6, 2015.

Milne-Price, who succeeded last year's First Team All-CHA honoree on the depth chart, entered Friday having not allowed a goal in 153 minutes and 31 seconds, edging the run of 153:01 Dodds enjoyed across two series as a junior. With a scoreless first period at Mercyhurst, "E.J." now owns the program's longest shutout streak.

The streak came to an untimely end at 181:09, further distancing herself from previous record-holder, original Colonial, ex-Olympian and current volunteer assistant coach Brianne McLaughlin. As a rookie during the team's inaugural season she went 172:49 without allowing a goal Jan. 28-Feb. 11, 2006.

Her teammates provided remarkable support in the opening frame, holding the Lakers without a shot on goal for the first 10:33 and outshooting them 7-2 through the first 20 minutes of play. Fellow upperclassman Katherine Murphy and junior defender Maggie LaGue each blocked a game-high four shots on the night.

Alas, a pair of power play goals sunk Robert Morris, which generated two early 5-on-4 opportunities of its own but only managed two shots on them against an ever-suffocating Mercyhurst defense. Maggie Knott got the goose egg off the board 7:38 into the second and later set up a Samantha Fiesler goal that came off a deflection 9:04 into the third.

Over her last four games, Milne-Price has registered a 1.01 goals-against average and .959 save percentage, both of which are second-best among NCAA seniors in that span. That save percentage also ranks tenth overall nationally.

This was her second 20-save effort in a row. She turned aside all 17 pucks she saw from LU Feb. 9, prior to surpassing Courtney Vinet '15 and Daneca Butterfield '11 for fourth in career shutouts at RMU with her fourth on Feb. 10.

Her path to the record began 7:29 into the second period versus Penn State Jan. 27. She gave the Colonials a scoreless third period in their annual "Skate For The Cure" game and, ultimately, a career single-game high 36 saves versus the Nittany Lions, half of which came on the penalty kill.

Dodds had victimized two other conference rivals, Syracuse and RIT, during her own shutout streak, while McLaughlin earned a scoreless tie and 1-0 win over then-CHA nemesis Niagara after starting her streak against another former CHA member, Wayne State.

Milne-Price now boasts a lifetime 1.36 GAA and .945 save percentage against Mercyhurst.

The Colonials look to retake the CHA lead when they meet again at the MIC Saturday afternoon for a 2:00 p.m. puck drop.
