Second Half Comeback Not Enough Against Aggies

Davis, Ca. - Robert Morris University women's lacrosse stormed back in the second half, but a hot start by UC Davis was just too much the Colonials fell to the Aggies 11-8 on Thursday night at Aggie Stadium.

UC Davis scored six straight to open the game before junior Kerri Sayrafe put the Colonials on the board. The back-and-forth continued the rest of the half, as freshman Madison Griffin scored her first of the game and Melanie Gandy added her sixth of the season, to make it a 9-3 game heading into the half.

The Aggies outshot RMU 13-6 in the first half, with sophomore goalkeeper Katelyn Miller making four saves, picking up three ground balls and causing two turnovers.

UC Davis' Sorana Larson scored to open the second half and would later score her third of the game, but Larson was the only Aggie to tally a second half goal, as the Colonials outscored UC Davis 5-2 in the second frame.

Sayrafe and Griffin each tallied their second of the game, before three new scorers entered the scoresheet. Clio Kerr scored with 5:43 remaining, with Sophia Eureka and Shannon Lynch scoring in the final 25 seconds, as the Colonials wrapped the scoring with eight goals.

Robert Morris went to freshman Mia Tornetta in goal in the second half. In 30:00, the longest outing of her career, Tornetta made four saves and allowed just two goals, also picking up four ground balls.

Sophomore Kelly Colegrove, a Northeast Conference Prime Performer last week, caused four turnovers and collected three ground balls. Sophomore Thalia Zolis picked up two ground balls and won two draw controls, also causing a turnover. Junior Shannon Lynch won three draws along with her goal, and senior Dana Davis won two draws, picking up two assists, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Robert Morris (2-5) is off for ten days, with the next contest coming on Sunday, March 18 against St. Bonaventure at Joe Walton Stadium in Moon Township, Pa.
