Davis, Ca. - Robert Morris University women's lacrosse stormed back in the second half, but a hot start by UC Davis was just too much the Colonials fell to the Aggies 11-8 on Thursday night at Aggie Stadium.
UC Davis scored six straight to open the game before junior
Kerri Sayrafe put the Colonials on the board. The back-and-forth continued the rest of the half, as freshman
Madison Griffin scored her first of the game and
Melanie Gandy added her sixth of the season, to make it a 9-3 game heading into the half.
The Aggies outshot RMU 13-6 in the first half, with sophomore goalkeeper
Katelyn Miller making four saves, picking up three ground balls and causing two turnovers.
UC Davis' Sorana Larson scored to open the second half and would later score her third of the game, but Larson was the only Aggie to tally a second half goal, as the Colonials outscored UC Davis 5-2 in the second frame.
Sayrafe and Griffin each tallied their second of the game, before three new scorers entered the scoresheet.
Clio Kerr scored with 5:43 remaining, with
Sophia Eureka and
Shannon Lynch scoring in the final 25 seconds, as the Colonials wrapped the scoring with eight goals.
Robert Morris went to freshman
Mia Tornetta in goal in the second half. In 30:00, the longest outing of her career, Tornetta made four saves and allowed just two goals, also picking up four ground balls.
Sophomore
Kelly Colegrove, a Northeast Conference Prime Performer last week, caused four turnovers and collected three ground balls. Sophomore
Thalia Zolis picked up two ground balls and won two draw controls, also causing a turnover. Junior
Shannon Lynch won three draws along with her goal, and senior
Dana Davis won two draws, picking up two assists, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Robert Morris (2-5) is off for ten days, with the next contest coming on Sunday, March 18 against St. Bonaventure at Joe Walton Stadium in Moon Township, Pa.
