Loretto, Pa. - The Colonials used a balanced attack to take down Saint Francis 18-12 on Friday afternoon, giving Robert Morris University back-to-back wins, bringing their Northeast Conference record to 2-1.
The Robert Morris offense was led by a trio of four-point performers, as junior
Shannon Lynch and sophomore
Melanie Gandy each recorded hat tricks and added an assist to go with three ground balls apiece, while junior
Kerri Sayrafe collected four points on two goals and two assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Katelyn Miller made nine saves in the victory, her sixth win of the season, bringing her season total to 99 saves. Miller also picked up four ground balls.
After the Red Flash took a 4-1 lead, Robert Morris scored five consecutive goals to grab a 6-4 advantage. SFU made it a one-goal game before the Colonials rattled off three straight goals, including a career first for defender
Kelly Colegrove, to put RMU in front 9-5.
Saint Francis pulled within one again, putting the pressure on RMU, which held onto a one-goal lead at the half, 9-8.
But the Colonials wouldn't allow SFU to come any closer, scoring eight of the next nine goals to take an 18-10 lead and eventually finish off an 18-12 win.
Robert Morris outshot SFU 36-31, 27-21 in shots on goal, winning the ground ball battle 28-27, earning 15 draw controls and causing nine turnovers.
Sophia Eureka and
Meghan Crouse each also scored twice for the Colonials, while
Madison Griffin,
Clio Kerr,
Hannah Miller,
Kelley Flynn and
Niki Grillon chipped in one apiece.Â
Shea McArdle led all defenders with three ground balls, while Colegrove had two, and
Thalia Zolis had two. McArdle, Colegrove and
Madison Burke each had a caused turnover, with Kerr leading all Colonials with two.
Senior
Dana Davis was limited offensively but had three ground balls, three draw controls and a caused turnover. Crouse had three draw wins and Griffin led the way with four, while Kerr won two.
Robert Morris (6-7, 2-1 NEC) continues its three-game road trip with a pair in New England next weekend against conference leader and favorite Bryant on Friday, before Sunday's final regular season road tilt at Central Connecticut on Sunday.
