Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University softball team watched its 2018 season come to a close with a pair of losses to Fairleigh Dickinson at North Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon. The Knights upended the Colonials, 9-3 and 11-0, to keep their postseason hopes alive. RMU ends the year 10-36 overall and 1-15 in the league. FDU sits 17-24 and 8-6 in the conference with two games still to play at league-leading Saint Francis.
Kaitlyn Clark went 3-for-5 on the day, raising her average in conference games to .368 on the season.
Natalie Higgins added a pair of hits, both doubles, while
Abrielle McCartney and
Madison Riggle each hit home runs in the opening game.
Fairleigh Dickinson jumped used six hits and took advantage of a pair of RMU errors to jump out to a 7-0 lead in the second inning of the opening game. The visiting squad tacked on two more runs courtesy of a Reanna Cervantes homer in the seventh inning. McCartney hit a solo shot in the second, her third homer of the season, while Riggle's two-run blast scored in the seventh scored Clark and made the final, 9-3.
In the nightcap, Erica Johnson picked up her fourth win of the season as she allowed just two hits and struck out two on 65 pitches to help Fairleigh Dickinson to an 11-0 five-inning rout. FDU scored three times in eh first inning, two coming on Cervantes' double to right center. The Knights next six runs came without a hit accounting for any of them. The scored four times in the second with the help of a pair of RMU errors and tacked on two more runs in the third and fourth innings to take an 11-0 victory. Clark and
Jordan Sterling accounted for the Colonials only two hits, both singles.
