Colonials Comeback Hopes Fall Short at Yale

Taylor Burkley scored her first career goal in the 81st minute, but a pair of chances afterward hit the post

New Haven, Conn. – After scoring in the 81st minute, the Robert Morris University women's soccer team's push for an equalizer fell short as the Colonials dropped their non-conference finale to Yale, 2-1, this afternoon.

Robert Morris (2-8-0, 0-0-0 NEC) fell behind early, allowing a pair of goals in the eighth and ninth minutes. Despite facing 16 shot attempts in the second half, the Colonials defense held strong and that momentum led to a furious finish that saw the aforementioned goal and other attempts striking the woodwork.

Noelle Higginson found the scoresheet in the eighth minute as Yale (5-2-1, 0-0-0 Ivy League) converted on a corner kick. A minute later, Saje Brar found Aerial Chavarin on a breakaway for the second Bulldog goal.

Taylor Burkley tallied her first career goal in the 81st minute off a feed from Brittany O'Connell. O'Connell played Burkley with a pass from behind, and the sophomore forward slotted it home from the left side of the box.

After Julia Schmid made a save on Chavarin, RMU broke on the counter and created a dangerous chance for Bailey Farabaugh. Farabaugh's strike struck the post, then 45 seconds later Nicolette Casarcia found the woodwork as its comeback hopes came to a close.

Schmid made three saves in the second half.

Robert Morris begins Northeast Conference (NEC) on Friday, Sept. 21 at 3:00 p.m. when it hosts Wagner.
