Fairfield, Conn. – The Robert Morris University volleyball team completed a New England sweep this evening, topping Sacred Heart in four sets (25-18, 25-22, 26-28, 25-23) in Northeast Conference (NEC) action at the William H. Pitt Center.
Robert Morris (13-3, 3-0 NEC) moved to 3-0 in the NEC for the fourth time in the last six seasons, and captured its first victory over Sacred Heart (6-9, 2-2 NEC) since Oct. 27, 2017. The Colonials hit at a .232 clip and posted 12.0 total team blocks, and had two players (Whitney Brown, Lauren Kolenik) post double-doubles.
Kolenik recorded her fifth double-double in RMU colors, leading the attack and back line with 15 kills and 16 digs. Brown quarterbacked the offense to the tune of 44 assists, and added 13 digs to match the redshirt sophomore in double-doubles.
Maria Alfano (14) and Emma Granger (12) also tallied double-digit kills, as the middle blocker duo and Kolenik combined for 41 of the team's 53 kills. At the net, Alfano registered six blocks (one solo), and Granger and Emily Deviln posted five block assists each.
The Colonials held the Pioneers to a .199 hitting percentage, marking the 11th time this season that RMU has achieved that.
Granger's five blocks give her 300 for her career, making her the eighth player in program history to meet that number.
Robert Morris returns home for three matches next week, starting on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7:00 p.m. against Saint Francis U.
