Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University football team had its five-game winning streak snapped with a 49-28 loss to No. 19 Central Connecticut State Saturday at Arute Field.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Blue Devils took control by scoring 21 points in the third quarter. Tied, 14-14, entering the second half, Jahlil Brown picked off RMU quarterback
Caleb Lewis on the first play from scrimmage after the break. CCSU took advantage, as Aaron Winchester scored from two yards out to give the Blue Devils a 21-14 advantage. The drive for Central Connecticut lasted just five plays and covered 36 yards.
TWO QUICK STRIKES
The Blue Devils struck twice within a span of one minute and 26 seconds late in the third quarter to grab a 35-14 lead. Tyshaun James hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass from Winchester with 1:54 left in the third quarter, and three plays later Brown came up big again for CCSU. Aiden Rosa forced a fumble by
Alijah Jackson on 3rd-and-1 at the Robert Morris 28-yard line. Brown picked up the loose ball and scampered 25 yards into the end zone for the score for Central Connecticut.
THE PACK
The Colonials scored their first touchdown of the afternoon thanks to a swarming special teams. Tight end
Matthew Gonzalez was able to break through the line and block a Francis Cole punt. Safety
Jacob White picked up the ball and raced 21 yards to the end zone, which tied the contest, 7-7, with 10:04 to go before halftime.
GRABBING THE LEAD
Robert Morris jumped in front, 14-7, with 5:20 to go before the break with a five-play, 63-yard drive that was capped by a 13-yard touchdown pass from Lewis to
DeLano Madison. It was part of a huge day for the senior wide receiver, who finished with six catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Madison also hauled in a 44-yard score from quarterback
George Martin with 9:09 remaining in the contest.
ON THE GROUND
Combined, the trio of Winchester, Danley Exilhomme and Enyce Walker rushed for 366 yards on the afternoon for Central Connecticut. Winchester finished with 91 yards on 19 attempts and scored four touchdowns on the ground for CCSU. Exilhomme averaged 7.1 yards per rush, accumulating 185 yards on 26 attempts, while Walker added 90 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.

The Colonials conclude their 2019 campaign at Joe Walton Stadium with their sixth home contest of the season. RMU welcomes Sacred Heart in a game that kicks off at Noon Saturday, Nov. 23.
