Colonials Fall To Fighting Irish

Williams duo combine for nine three-pointers at Notre Dame

Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University men's basketball team continued play in the 2019 Men Against Breast Cancer (MABC) Invitational Saturday, dropping a 92-57 decision to Notre Dame at Purcell Pavilion at the Edmund P. Joyce Center in South Bend, Ind.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED

The Fighting Irish used a balanced scoring attack against RMU (0-2) as five players scored in double figures, including Dane Goodwin, who came off the bench to score 18 points to lead Notre Dame. He converted six of his eight shots from the field and was 5-for-5 at the free-throw line.

THREE'S COMPANY

Four different Colonials knocked down a three-pointer against the Fighting Irish, including guard Jon Williams, who finished 3-for-4 from beyond the arc en route to nine points. His first triple of the contest at the 13:10 mark of the first half pulled the Colonials to within 10-8 before Notre Dame (1-1) used a 22-7 run to open up a 32-15 advantage with 4:10 to go in the first half.

THIRD ROCK FROM THE SUN

While Jon Williams finished 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, his brother, guard Josh Williams, led all scorers in the contest with 21 points. He shot 7-for-18 from the field, including 6-for-16 from deep, while going 1-for-2 at the free-throw line. He also added five rebounds and two assists. It marks the seventh time Williams has hit at least five three-pointers in a game in a Robert Morris uniform. The Colonials are 4-3 (.571) in those contests.

Robert Morris and Notre Dame were facing off the first time Saturday. The Fighting Irish are the first of six foes on the 2019-20 schedule the Colonials will be taking on for the first time this year. Also included in that run is UIC (11/21), Marquette (11/23), Geneva (11/27), Florida Gulf Coast (12/7) and UNLV (12/21).
