OLEAN, N.Y. -- With an 18-9 defeat of St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon, the
Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team is building confidence toward the end of its non-conference schedule.
Senior
Kerri Sayrafe scored a first-half hat trick at the Marra Athletics Complex en route to a four-goal performance, but she was only one member of the offensive party for RMU, which capped its first two-win week of the season.
With 12 assists on their 18 goals, the Colonials did well in sharing the ball. Junior
Melanie Gandy was tops in that category, adding five helpers to her two goals.
Shannon Lynch buried three goals and totaled four points, while RMU leading scorerÂ
Mackenzie Gandy earned her fourth hat trick in seven games.
"Total team effort," Colonials head coach
Katrina Silva said. "When your team truly cares for each other, then they are willing to do the work it takes for every individual to become more successful than they ever could by themselves."
Sayrafe's four goals are her most since her sophomore year, when she set the program record with eight strikes vs. Saint Francis.
Melanie Gandy's five assists marked a career high, three shy of Lynch's team record set last season.
The Colonials (5-2) stormed to a 10-1 lead after 23 minutes and toted an 11-3 edge into the halftime break. Combined with their 20-goal home outburst against Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, RMU flexed its attacking muscles in an impressive way this week.
"I think we came out really hot and moved the ball fast," Sayrafe said. "Most of the goals we had today were assisted, which really shows how well we moved the ball."
Junior midfielders Meghan Crouse and Clio Kerr -- recently named to Team Ireland for this summer's European Championships -- finished with identical one-goal, two-assist stat lines. Kerr tossed in a team-high seven draw controls and caused two turnovers, tied with 2018 All-Northeast Conference defender Kelly Colegrove and Kelley Flynn for the most on the Colonials.
Goalie Katelyn Miller played a supporting role well, stopping seven shots for her 24th RMU victory in her 43rd consecutive start.
For the second straight game, though, the story was on the attacking side of the field. Robert Morris outshot St. Bonaventure (1-6) by a 45-24 margin for the game, including a 25-11 advantage in the second half.
The Colonials won't take the field again for another seven days, when they host Radford of the Big South on Saturday, March 23. First draw is scheduled for noon at Joe Walton Stadium in RMU's final non-conference home game of 2019.
"Coming off two big wins definitely helps boost our confidence," Sayrafe said. "I think collectively as a team we can use these wins to help keep the momentum going."
