Colonials Shutout by BU In Louisville Slugger Invite Finale

Los Angeles, Calif. – The Robert Morris University softball team finished off play at the Louisville Slugger Invitational with a 4-0 loss to Boston University at Easton Field on the campus of UCLA. The loss drops the Colonials record to 3-15 while the Terriers improve to 11-5.

// Rounding the Bases
For the sixth straight game, a Colonials opponent scored in the first inning. Alex Heinen did the damage this time with a two-run homer inside the left field foul pole that scored AJ Huerta-Leipner. A bases loaded single by Marina Sylvestri pushed the lead to 3-0 in the fourth. In the fifth, Alexa Ponce doubled to left center, scoring Heinen who had walked earlier in the frame.

// Inside the Circle
Ali DuBois went the distance to improve to 8-1 for Boston. She scattered six hits and struck out eight batters, dropping her ERA to 1.11 in the process. Dana Vatakis was the pitcher of record for RMU, slipping to 2-5 in her rookie campaign. She was charged with four runs and allowed seven hits.

// The Batter's Box
Ponce went 2-of-3 with a double and a run batted in to lead Boston University. Six different players accounted for the Terriers six hits. Heinen scored twice and drove in two runs with her first inning homer. Every other hit was a single.

The Colonials collected six hits off the bats of six different players. Erika Bell was the only RMU player to reach base more than once as she singled in the fourth and drew a walk in the sixth.

// On Deck
Robert Morris plays its first game north of the Mason-Dixon Line when it travels to State College, Pa., for a 5:00 p.m. doubleheader against the Penn State Nittany Lions.
