Colonials, Zips To Square Off Tuesday

RMU to face team from the MAC for second consecutive doubleheader

The Robert Morris University softball team gets back to action after almost a week off Tuesday when it travels to Akron, Ohio, for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader against Akron. It marks RMU's second consecutive doubleheader against a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

> The Colonials fell in the first game against the Golden Flashes, 11-3 in five innings, before dropping a 7-0 decision in game two
> Junior Taryn Miller finished 1-for-3 with a run and a pair of RBI in game one @ Kent State
> Junior Briana Bunner and freshman Brittney Seibert each went 2-for-3 in the first game against the Golden Flashes
> Seibert has hit safely in eight of her last 11 contests, hitting .448 (13-for-29) during that span with six runs and seven RBI
> Senior Abrielle McCartney became the 13th player in program history to accumulate 150 career hits @ Kent State (4/17/19)

> Over that same 20-game span, Bunner has hit .368 (21-for-57) with seven doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI
> Freshman Dana Vatakis has been named both the NEC Pitcher of the Week & NEC Rookie of the Week twice in 2019
> Vatakis first earned double honors from the NEC March 26, 2019, and again April 16, 2019
> McCartney owns a team-high 11 multiple-hit games for Robert Morris in 2019 and is hitting a team-high .370 w/ runners on
> Senior Taylor Bartlow has hit .714 (10-for-14) this season when leading off an inning
> Freshman Brittney Seibert is the only member of RMU to start all 43 games in 2019
> Nine different student-athletes have homered for the Colonials, led by Natalie Higgins and Taryn Miller with six each
> The Colonials return 11 players from their 2018 team, including every player who threw a pitch for the team
> RMU added seven freshmen to its 2019 roster, two pitchers and five position players
> Sophomore Kaitlyn Clark was an All-Northeast Conference First Team pick as a utility player last season
> Clark hit .274 last season, playing 36 games and starting 25 at five different positions
> The team's top hitter, Natalie Higgins, is back after hitting .361 and leading the team in slugging percentage (.541)
> Freshman Kristýna Malá played for the Czech National Team in 2018
> The Colonials have won four of the last eight NEC regular-season titles
> RMU had the fifth-highest grade point average, 3.598, in NCAA Division I last season and claimed the NEC Team GPA Award
> Robert Morris was picked ninth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll

The Colonials return to Northeast Conference play with a pair of home doubleheaders at the North Athletic Complex. Robert Morris hosts LIU Brooklyn Saturday, April 27, at 1:00 p.m. and Mount St. Mary's Sunday, April 28, at 2:00 p.m.
