RMU Claims Fifth at 2019 MAAC Championships

Second Varsity 8 earns bronze for Colonials

Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University rowing team concluded its 2018-19 campaign Sunday by finishing fifth at the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships in Pennsauken Township, N.J.

The Colonials finished with 30 points. Marist claimed the team championship with 53 points, followed by Jacksonville (49), Drake (37) and Stetson (32). Following RMU was Canisius (22), Fairfield (21), Manhattan (19) and Sacred Heart (7).

Each of RMU's boats to compete, the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 4, advanced to the Grand Final, with the Second Varsity 8 highlighting the championships by earning bronze.

The Robert Morris Second Varsity 8 recorded a time of 7:26.521, trailing only Marist (7:08.267) and Jacksonville (7:18.529). Rounding out the field and trailing the Colonials were Drake (7:37.041), Stetson (7:46.716) and Manhattan (8:05.387).

RESULTS: 2019 MAAC Championships (5/19/19)

For the RMU Second Varsity 8, freshman Molly Rosado served as the coxswain, and she was joined in the boat by sophomore Nicole Kristof, senior Miriam Levenson, senior Kathryn Gossel, junior Sophie Carroll, senior Emma Smith and sophomores Francesca Barchetti, Mia Krolczyk and Satalia Rickman.

The Varsity 8 recorded a time of 7:28.154. Junior Kestra Harris was the coxswain and the boat also included freshman Madyson Orlando, sophomore Madelyn Green, seniors Grace Faye and Melissa Asaro, sophomore Rachel Gress, freshman Marissa Beck and sophomores Taylor Boczar and Molly McGuire.

In Varsity 4 action, junior Brittany Bell was the coxswain and she assisted in a boat that finished with time of 8:48.616.  Joining Bell in the boat was sophomore Emma McIntosh, freshman Mary Woods, Gossel and freshman Alana Eckels.

A pair of Colonials also earned All-MAAC honors at the conclusion of the championships.

Asaro was named to the 2019 All-MAAC First Team, while Faye earned 2019 All-MAAC Second Team accolades. It marks the second consecutive year the pair earned All-MAAC plaudits. The All-MAAC honors are comprised of student-athletes from Varsity 8 boats.
