Colonials add non-conference home game against Pioneers

12/3/2020 6:00:00 PM

Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU men's basketball team announced an addition to its 2020-21 schedule Thursday, as the Colonials will host Point Park at the UPMC Events Center Saturday, Dec. 5, in a 6:00 p.m. tip to open their 45th season of NCAA Division I basketball.

"When the opportunity arose to add a non-conference game to our schedule and open the season with a home game at the UPMC Events Center, as a staff we wanted to take advantage," RMU Pat Gallagher Head Coach Andrew Toole said. "As challenging as the year 2020 has been, having the chance to prepare our student-athletes for competition allows for a sense of normalcy. We're excited to go out on the court and compete."

The contest against the Pioneers marks just the second all-time between Point Park and RMU and the first since the 1977-78 season, the second year for the Colonials as an NCAA Division I program. The Pioneers posted an 84-65 win over RMU Feb. 20, 1978.

According to a poll of Horizon League head coaches, communication professionals and select members of the media, RMU was picked to finish fourth in its first season in the league in 2020-21. Senior forward AJ Bramah earned a spot on the 2020-21 Preseason All-Horizon League Second Team and is one of three returning starters for the Colonials.

In 33 games for RMU in 2019-20, Bramah posted averages of 13.4 points and a team-high 8.2 rebounds per contest while shooting 56.9 percent (173-for-304) from the field. Joining Bramah as a returning starter in 2020-21 is senior guard Jon Williams and junior guard Dante Treacy.

Toole enters his 11th season leading the Colonials and 14th overall at RMU in 2020-21. He has compiled an overall record of 188-154 (.550) and is the program's all-time leader for victories. During his 10 seasons as head coach, the Colonials have earned bids to six national postseason tournaments, including two each in the NCAA Tournament (2015, 2020), National Invitation Tournament (NIT) (2013, 2014) and CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) (2012, 2019).
