Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Robert Morris Can't Contain Red Flash

SFU shoots even 50 percent from field in win over Colonials

Loretto, Pa. – The Robert Morris University men's basketball team dropped its second consecutive game Tuesday, wrapping up a stretch of three games in six days with an 86-71 loss to Saint Francis U at DeGol Arena. The Colonials dipped to 15-13 overall on the 2019-20 season, including 11-4 in the Northeast Conference.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED

Isaiah Blackmon scored 18 of his career-high 30 points in the first half to help bolster the Red Flash, who shot 50 percent (36-for-72) from the field in the contest. In the first 20 minutes of action, Blackmon shot 7-for-9 from the floor, including 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. His three-pointer at the 9:39 mark gave SFU a 24-14 advantage, and his layup with 8:23 to go before the break pushed the lead for the Red Flash to 29-16.

QUOTABLE

"We were behind all night, turned the ball over early in the game, we just weren't engaged with what was going on," RMU Pat Gallagher Head Coach Andrew Toole said. "The more we tried to get some energy or some life going, it seemed like we were in quicksand. We just weren't able to handle their offense. I'm disappointed in our energy. It's frustrating. We'll try to figure out how we can get our guys energized."

FORWARD THINKING

RMU received the majority of its production from its frontcourt, as forwards Charles Bain, Yannis Mendy and AJ Bramah each finished in double figures. Bain scored a season-high 17 points and also grabbed six rebounds for the Colonials, while Bramah added 14 points, five boards and a pair of assists. Mendy chipped in 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting while pacing Robert Morris with seven rebounds. Combined, the trio shot 51.5 percent (17-for-33) from the floor.

MOVING ON UP

Junior guard Jon Williams moved into a tie for seventh place all-time at Robert Morris for career starts with his 96th Tuesday @ SFU. He is tied with former guard Derek Coleman (2003-07) and is one starting assignment shy of moving into a tie for sixth place in program history with former forward Aaron Thomas (2000-04). Williams is on pace to become the sixth player in program history to make 100 career starts in the quarterfinals of the 2020 NEC Tournament.

UP NEXT

Robert Morris returns to Peoples Court at the UPMC Events Center Friday, Feb. 21, for a 7:00 p.m. tip against Mount St. Mary's.
