Colonials Can't Stop Knights' Charge

RMU falls in final road game of 2019-20 regular season

Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University men's basketball team concluded the road portion of its 2019-20 schedule Sunday, concluding a stretch of five games in 11 days with a 75-70 loss to Fairleigh Dickinson at Stratis Arena in Teaneck, N.J. The Colonials dipped to 16-14 overall, including 12-5 in the Northeast Conference, in 2019-20.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED

RMU let a 10-point halftime slip away, as the Colonials held a 34-24 advantage at the break. FDU converted 62.1 percent (18-for-29) of its attempts from the field in the second half, including 53.8 percent (7-for-13) from beyond the arc, and was a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line in completing the comeback victory. The Knights used an 18-8 run in the first seven minutes of the second half to tie the contest, 42-42, with 13:04 to play and scored 51 points in the second frame, the most since Robert Morris allowed 53 in the second half in the second game of the campaign @ Notre Dame (11/9/19).

SURGING

Tied, 42-42, Fairleigh Dickinson used a 17-7 run to grab its first double-digit advantage of the contest, 59-49, with 6:46 remaining. The three-pointer was a key part of the attack for the Knights, as Jahlil Jenkins hit a pair, while Devon Dunn and Brandon Powell each connected from deep. Robert Morris was able to trim its deficit to 69-67 with 50 seconds to play after a layup from redshirt senior guard Josh Williams, but Xzavier Malone-Key converted in the paint 11 seconds later and FDU sealed the win with a 4-for-4 performance at the stripe in the final 17 seconds.

NO QUIT

Sophomore guard Dante Treacy had a breakout performance offensively for the Colonials, as he led four players in double figures with a career-high 23 points. Treacy shot 9-for-16 from the floor, including 5-for-7 from beyond the arc, and added two rebounds, two assists and two steals for RMU. Off the bench, sophomore guard Jalen Hawkins and junior forward AJ Bramah each scored 10 points, while redshirt senior guard Josh Williams added 10 points of his own.
