Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU men's basketball team concluded a two-game set with Wright State Saturday at the WSU Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio, dropping an 86-56 decision. The Colonials slip to 3-9 (.250) overall on the 2020-21 campaign, including 2-7 (.222) in the Horizon League.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Colonials could never get on track offensively, converting just 35.7 percent (10-for-28) from the field in the opening 20 minutes. The Raiders grabbed an 18-7 lead at the 11:21 mark of the first half after Grant Basile converted in the paint on a feed from Loudon Love. Love was the main offensive force in the first half for Wright State, converting seven of his 11 shots from the floor in compiling 15 points while grabbing eight rebounds.
THE GENERAL
Senior guard
Jon Williams was the only member of the Colonials to reach double figures in scoring Saturday, leading the way with 10 points while also dishing out five assists. In the two-game set against the Raiders, Williams averaged 12.0 points and 5.5 assists and pushed his career total in helpers to 455. He is the seventh student-athlete in program history to eclipse 450 career assists and enters the final month of the 2020-21 regular season just five dimes shy of moving into sixth place all-time in the category. Former guard Javier Smith (1994-98) sits sixth with 459 career assists.
SHOOTER
Freshman guard
Kam Farris finished with nine points Saturday in 18 minutes of action on an efficient 4-for-6 shooting from the field, including 1-for-2 from beyond the arc. He paced the Colonials in the two-game set offensively against Wright State, averaging 12.5 points while converting 58.8 percent (10-for-17) of his attempts, including a 5-for-8 (62.5%) performance from downtown. More impressively, Farris has knocked down at least one three-point attempt in each of the 10 games he's played in 2020-21. Against Horizon League foes, Farris is shooting 53.8 percent (21-for-39) from deep.
LOUD LOVE
In the opener of the two-game series, Love, the reigning Horizon League Player of the Year, finished with just seven points on 3-of-12 shooting from the floor. He did an about face in the finale, leading the way for the Raiders with a double-double. Love finished with a career-high 34 points on 15-of-22 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds. In the process he became the Wright State all-time leader for career rebounds in either men's or women's basketball history. Love's 11 caroms pushed his career total to 1,053 boards, surpassing former WSU student-athlete Symone Simmons, who concluded her career with 1,050 rebounds.
