Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU Department of Athletics will celebrate the return of college basketball and the chance for spectators to return to basketball arenas with Madness Thursday, Oct. 28, at 8:00 p.m. at the UPMC Events Center.
Doors for Madness open at 7:30 p.m., which will feature the RMU men's and women's basketball teams competing in a series of skill challenges, including a three-point shootout, free-throw shooting challenge and a dunk competition among student-athletes from the men's program. Madness will also feature the RMU cheerleaders and dance team as well as performances from DJ Billy B and the RMU band.
Two students will have a chance to team up with a student-athlete from the men's team and women's team to take part in the free-throw shooting challenge to win a prize, and another student will be chosen to take part in the
Chick-Fil-A Robinson Half Court Shooting Contest with an opportunity to win free Chick-Fil-A for a year.
In addition, RMU will honor the accomplishments of the Colonials from the 2019-20 season at Madness. The RMU men's team claimed its ninth Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament championship and subsequent bid to the NCAA Tournament, while the women's program earned its ninth postseason tournament appearance since 2007.
In addition to Madness, the RMU Department of Athletics will also host Trunk or Treat prior to the football team hosting Hampton Saturday, Oct. 30, at 11:00 a.m. at Joe Walton Stadium. Trunk or Treat is a safe alternative to traditional trick or treating and is an event for families and kids of all ages to interact with the RMU community.
Free t-shirts for all kids 12 and under (while supplies last) will be available at Trunk or Treat, which will feature themed trunks from various RMU student organizations and campus departments. The top three voted trunks will win a cash donation to the organization or department's philanthropy of choice.
RMU fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite Trunk or Treat costume of the day on social media via the official RMU Athletics Instagram page. By liking their favorite costume via stories on Instagram Saturday afternoon during RMU's game against Hampton, fans have the opportunity to determine the winner. Trunk or Treat will also feature an RMU men's basketball autograph session and an opportunity to shoot with student-athletes at the RMU inflatable hoop in the plaza of Joe Walton Stadium.
