PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Haleigh Finale's overtime game winner in the 95' delivered the Robert Morris University women's soccer team a win on Senior Day as they edged Youngstown State 1-0.
The win brings RMU's final overall record to 6-10-3 on the season, including a 2-6-3 mark in Horizon League play.
The Colonials enjoyed a dramatic advantage in scoring chances in the first, out-shooting YSU 12-2 in the opening half of action.
Haleigh Finale and Sofie Lien Fagereng each earned decent looks within the first two minutes, pushing both efforts wide as RMU looked for the early advantage.
The chances kept coming as Sheridan Reid let go of a hard strike that missed the mark again, while another effort from Finale was saved by Penguin keeper Zeeyana Jivraj.
Near misses in the box from Emily Rocco and Kayla Veloso-Lima punctuated a solid but scoreless first half for RMU.
The Colonials continued to push the pace in the second, creating chance after chance in the attacking third.
Chelsea Kingston missed by inches on a header in the box following a Colonials corner shortly before a strike from Reid beat Jivraj but hit the crossbar and stayed out. A third, successive try from Finale was again swallowed up as RMU continued their attack.
Two late corners and another close call for Kingston book-ended a scoreless 90 minutes for the Colonials.
Finale finally hit pay dirt 4:33 into the extra frame, picking up a loose ball near the edge of the box before beating Jivarj for her team-leading sixth of the year and sending the Colonials into the offseason with a victory.
