PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Robert Morris men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 showdown against Green Bay on Senior Day at the North Athletic Complex Friday afternoon.
Charlie Lawrence and Colton Spence each scored their first career goals for RMU in the loss as the Colonials fall to 4-10-1 (3-5-1 Horizon League) on the year.
The Colonials could not have asked for a better start Friday, going up 1-0 in the 4' after Bryan Akongo and Charlie Lawrence combined to finish off a beautiful sequence.Â
After corralling a lead pass down the wing, Akongo cut into the box before letting go of a perfect cross to a waiting Lawrence near the far post.Â
The freshman made no mistake, finishing off the service with a tap-in goal to send RMU off and running.Â
Close calls for Nathaniel David and Tom Akinola were saved to deny a second goal for the Colonials, while Grant Glorioso came up huge with a number of point blank stops including in close on Dylan Campbell with under ten to play in the opening half.Â
Josh Johansen leveled for Green Bay just nine minutes into the second, beating Grant Glorioso with a strike inside the box as the Phoenix clawed their way back into things.
Both teams pressed on looking for the equalizer, however soggy field conditions made things much tougher the longer the game went on.
The Phoenix made it 2-1 in the 82', kicking off a whirlwind final eight minutes of action that saw Spence tie things up for RMU in the 88' only for Green Bay to find a third goal with under a minute to play to take the win in regulation.
