Jaguars Post 3-1 Win Over Colonials

RMU concludes five-match road trip Friday at Youngstown State

Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU volleyball team concluded its swing through Indiana Saturday as part of a five-match road trip dropping a 3-1 decision to IUPUI at The Jungle. The Colonials dipped to 9-17 (.346) overall during the 2021 campaign, including 2-12 (.143) in the Horizon League.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
RMU has struggled in the first set during its eight-match losing streak, but the Colonials almost broke through against the Jaguars. Outside hitter Annie Monaco put RMU on top in the opening set, 11-9, after a kill on a feed from setter Ashleigh Wallin, but IUPUI used a 4-0 spurt to turn a two-point deficit into a two-point lead. The first set featured five ties, the final of which came at 19-19 after a service ace from fifth-year middle blocker Emma Granger. The Jaguars responded by scoring the next four points of the set en route to a 25-23 win to open the match.

TWO, THREE

IUPUI (5-21 / 3-12 #HLVB) grabbed an early 11-6 lead in set two and used that advantage to take a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-16 triumph before the Colonials rallied in the third set. RMU never trailed, grabbing leads of 4-1, 11-4 and 14-8 as the Colonials put together a complete effort, registering a .353 hitting percentage while recording 17 digs on the defensive end. Granger was the main offensive force with five kills during the 25-20 win in the third set, finishing with a .625 attack percentage, while outside hitter Abby Ryan added four kills and a pair of digs. RMU looked to ride that momentum into the fourth set, which featured 11 ties and six lead changes. Tied, 20-20, the Jaguars grabbed a 22-20 lead, which was aided by a Brooke Phillips service ace, while Millai Madison and Allie Pogue combined for a block to seal the match victory.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Monaco paced the RMU offense as one of four Colonials to record at least eight kills Saturday against the Jaguars. She finished with 15 in 42 total attempts, notching a .238 hitting percentage, while adding a pair of service aces and eight digs. Outside hitter Alyson Londot and Granger each contributed nine kills, while outside hitter Alyssa Hudak posted eight. As a team, RMU finished with nine service aces, including three from Wallin, who also dished out 27 assists.
