Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU volleyball team traveled to Northern Kentucky Tuesday for its first Horizon League road match of the 2021 season, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Norse at Regents Hall. The Colonials slip to 8-9 (.471) overall, including 1-4 (.200) in #HLVB.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Colonials dropped the first two sets of the contest, 25-18 and 25-12, despite the efforts of outside hitters
Alyssa Hudak and
Annie Monaco, who combined for 10 kills and a .304 hitting percentage. NKU (7-6 / 3-1 #HLVB) used an 11-4 surge in the first set to take control and never trailed in the second, grabbing an early 5-0 lead before extending its advantage to 17-7.
ENERGIZED
RMU rallied in the third set, using a 7-4 spurt to turn an early 6-2 deficit into a 9-9 tie. Hudak provided a pair of kills, while the Colonials also received one each from graduate students
Alyson Londot and
Emma Granger. The Colonials grabbed the lead for good in the set, 12-11, on a kill from Monaco, which ignited a 9-4 run to open up a 20-15 lead. Hudak was again in the middle of the rally, providing a pair of kills.
WHO DAT? HUDAK!
Hudak had arguably the best match of her senior season against the Norse, posting 12 kills, a .333 hitting percentage, three digs and a pair of blocks. She tied for team-high honors with Monaco in scoring with 13 points. Monaco paced RMU with 13 kills and again just missed a double-double by one dig, finishing with nine. Monaco has reached double figures in kills in three consecutive matches after recording just two double-digit efforts in the category in her first 10 matches of the season. During that stretch she owns 40 kills, a .302 attack percentage, 29 digs and 42.5 points.
