PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's hockey team completed a sweep over Sacred Heart Sunday, taking down the Pioneers 8-0 on Senior Day at Clearview Arena.
Molly Singewald, Anjelica Diffendal, Emily Curlett, Emilie Harley, and Lexi Templeman were each honored with a pregame ceremony to celebrate their contributions to the Colonials program over the last four years, and all four Colonial senior skaters recorded at least a point in the win.
Senior goaltender Molly Singewald picked up her second consecutive shutout in her second career start as well for RMU, while junior Michaela Boyle capped it off with a four-goal game.
You couldn't have scripted a better start for the Colonials on Senior Sunday.
Just 27 seconds off the opening puck drop, Anjelica Diffendal made it 1-0 after her deflection of Emilie Harley's blast through traffic beat the SHU keeper high glove, finishing off a sequence of pressure in the offensive zone in which all four senior skaters were active in the play.
Diffendal's tally opened the scoring in the first three minutes of the game for the second consecutive day as RMU raced out to an early lead once again.
Maggy Burbidge doubled the lead near the midway mark of the first, tapping home a deflected puck in the slot that bounced to her in front.
Boyle pushed it to 3-0 before the first was out on a superb individual effort in front of the cage, getting knocked down with a crosscheck before sliding home the loose puck from her knees and into the back of the net.
Singewald was tested with a nice shift in the O-zone from SHU in the second, however the senior did well to seal off the post to prevent SHU from cashing in on the pressure.
Ellie Marcovsky made it 4-0 with a dirty goal at the top of the Pioneer crease before Michaela Boyle scored her second of the game, a beautiful end-to-end rush capped off with a perfectly placed wrister, high glove.
Joelle Fiala made it 6-0 for good measure with a nice re-driect off of Gillian Thompson's point shot before Michaela Boyle completed her hat trick, jamming home a loose puck at the side of the net off a broken play.
The junior finished off her remarkable day with a fourth goal with time winding down in the final frame as RMU cruised to an 8-0 win on Senior Day.
