PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's hockey team suffered its second straight loss against the Syracuse Orange Saturday afternoon at Clearview Arena, 4-1.
Marah Wagner scored the lone goal for RMU, her sixth of the year.
The Colonials had what looked like two sure-fire goals within the first five minutes Saturday, just narrowly missing on a couple great chances in tight.
Emily Harley found herself alone near the top of the zone with time and space, however the senior fired her effort high after walking right down the slot uncontested.
A few shifts later, Anjelica Diffendal hit Kyleigh Hanzlik with a perfect feed back-door that Hanzlik just barely misconnected on, pushing the effort wide of the far post.
Marah Wagner finally capitalized on one of RMU's many golden opportunities seven minutes in, roofing a backhander in the slot that went bar-down on Allison Small to set the Colonials up with another early first-period lead.
A big from DeSmet on a fast break kept it 1-0 Colonials after one.
The Orange leveled things at 1-1 less than five minutes into the second frame after Sarah Thompson knocked a loose puck through DeSmet's legs following back-to-back crossbars for Syracuse in the offensive zone.
The game flipped within a span of 4:14 following the Thompson goal as Syracuse scored three more times in quick succession to take a commanding 4-1 lead into the locker rooms after 40 minutes of play.
RMU could not convert on a third-period power-play to jumpstart a comeback, ending the day 0-3 on the player-advantage in the loss.
