Colonials Fall To Oakland In Season Opener

ROCHESTER, MI - The Robert Morris men's soccer team dropped the opening game of the spring 2021 season Thursday evening, falling 5-0 to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies at the Grizz Dome.

The loss moves RMU to 0-1 to start their first season as members of the Horizon League.

"We learned a lot tonight," head coach Jason O'Keefe said.  "Oakland is a very good team and punished us for our mistakes like good teams do. We will recover, get back to work and turn our focus on CSU at home next week."

Oakland wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, going up 1-0 in the 10' courtesy of a strike from Dylan Borzack in what would end up being the first of three for him in the game.

The Colonials earned their best chance of the half minutes later on a free kick, however the effort was saved by the Oakland keeper.  Another potential chance off a corner looked promising, however nothing came of it either as RMU continued to trail, 1-0.

Borzack's second of the game came in the 25' before he completed the hat trick to end the half up 3-0. Jon Faynik earned a solid look for RMU, however his effort was again swallowed up by the OU keeper.

The Golden Grizzlies tacked on two more before the final whistle sounded to hand RMU the loss.  Faynik led RMU with one shot on goal while Grant Glorioso made his fifth career start in goal for RMU.

The Colonials return to action next Wednesday when they host Cleveland State in their home opener.
