CANONSBURG, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's soccer team lost Tuesday morning in their home finale against Wright State 1-0 at SouthPointe Fieldhouse.
The loss moves the Colonials to 1-5-1 (1-5-1 HL) on the year.
"It's just about decisions and understanding how you want to play as a team," Head Coach Jason O'Keefe said. "We're doing everything in the build and in the midfield third right, but we've still got some old habits to break."
Much of the first half Tuesday was played in the middle-third of the pitch as both squads probed the others defensive lines in the hopes of breaking through for a goal.
RMU earned an early corner in the 2' but couldn't make anything come of it as the volley fell into the box and was cleared out before a Colonial could get a foot on it.
WSU earned a corner of their own in the 12' and just narrowly missed on converting when Rody Harrison pushed his effort wide.
Preston Rushmore earns another look that was swallowed up by the Wright State keeper before the Raiders managed to strike first.
After taking a ball at midfield, Ludwig Conrad cut through the RMU defense before pulling up near the corner of the 18 yard box, firing a hard strike that beat Grant Glorioso into the upper left hand corner to give WSU the 1-0 advantage.
Tom Akinola earned a glorious chance at the onset of the second with a beautiful individual effort, streaking down the right wing with possession before cutting into the box and firing a short-range strike that was somehow turned away by the WSU keeper.
The Colonials continued to press for the equalizer but found difficulty in penetrating the Raiders back line as WSU managed to skillfully boot away a number of dangerous looking through balls for RMU.
Another volley from Akinola was stopped on a roller from inside the box as time ran out on the RMU comeback.
"We definitely had more urgency in the second half, which you also need in attack," O'Keefe said. "More commitment to put them under pressure, because that's how you score goals."
