Kerr Tallies Six In Win Over Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 16-10 win over the Butler Bulldogs Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field.

Clio Kerr set a new career-high in goals for the second time in three games, following up her four-goal performance against Kent State earlier this week with a six-goal game against the Dawgs. She added six draw controls and a ground ball to complete a dominant afternoon and help RMU secure the win.

The Colonials jumped all over the Bulldogs early, firing out of the gate with a 5-0 run to kick things off Varsity Field.

Though Clio Kerr didn't officially kick off the scoring until near the 24:00 minute mark, RMU enjoyed near constant possession in the attacking zone for the opening 12 minutes of action Sunday, scooping four ground balls to negate potential turnovers and maintain possession despite some aggressive stick work from the Bulldogs.

Kerr scored twice four minutes apart to set RMU off and running in what would be the first two of four first-half tallies for the grad student.

Goals from Mackenzie Gandy and Julia Koterwas as well as the completed hat trick from Kerr pushed it to 5-0 before foul trouble helped BU get back into things.

A yellow card on Jordan Anderson led to Butler's first tally before back-to-back shooting space violations on RMU set Butler up with two more free-position goals.

A number of huge stops from Jamie Keller including several point-blank saves on free-position shots loomed large as the Colonials managed to survive the push and keep Butler at arm's length. The junior keeper made ten saves and played 50:19 in relief between the pipes for RMU.

Soon enough they began to settle down and started controlling play once more, ending the half on a 4-1 run thanks to pair of man-up goals Anderson and Kerr.

Momentum swings continued to define the game as the second half kicked off.

Kerr's fifth of the game just 27 seconds into the second frame made it a six-goal lead for the Colonials, however Butler was quickly back on their tail, beating Keller twice within a span of 30 seconds to cut it back down to 11-7.

Another 4-1 run for the Colonials kicked off by another man-up goal from Kerr near the midway mark of the second gave RMU the breathing space it needed as time ran out on a potential Bulldogs comeback.
