Shegog Earns Freshman Honor From HERO Sports

Linebacker named to HERO Sports 2020-21 Freshman All-America Team

Moon Township, Pa. – Redshirt freshman linebacker Jamar Shegog of the RMU football team was named to the HERO Sports 2020-21 Freshman All-America Team, it was announced Wednesday.

Shegog, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., and a graduate of Seton LaSalle High School, saw the first extended action of his career during RMU's spring 2021 campaign. In three games, he finished second for the Colonials in tackles with 28, including 12 solo takedowns. He also added a forced fumble, fumble recovery and pass breakup.

In RMU's spring opener @ No. 2 James Madison (2/27), Shegog earned his first career start at linebacker and finished with seven tackles. He added eight stops and a fumble recovery in RMU's debut in the Big South @ Kennesaw State (4/3) and in the final game of the spring for the Colonials @ Charleston Southern (4/10) established a career high with 13 tackles, including seven solo takedowns.

Shegog is the second RMU student-athlete to garner HERO Sports Freshman All-American accolades, joining center Eric McAllister (2017-21), who garnered the honor at the conclusion of his rookie campaign in 2017.

Led by head coach Bernard Clark, Jr., the Colonials open their 2021 fall season Saturday, Sept. 4, with a non-conference road game @ Dayton. RMU opens the home portion of its schedule Saturday, Sept. 25, by welcoming Howard to Joe Walton Stadium. Season tickets, which includes four Big South home games as part of the first full season for the Colonials in the conference, can be purchased by calling the RMU Ticket Office at (412) 397-4949.
