RMU Secures Point With Draw In Detroit

DETROIT, Mich. - A second-half goal from Kayla Veloso-Lima helped the Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team secure another point in the 2021 Horizon League standings Sunday with a 2-2 draw against Detroit Mercy at Titan Field.

Veloso-Lima's third of the season brings RMU to 4-6-2 (0-2-2 HL) on the year.

The first half featured a number of quality chances for the Colonials early in Sunday's action.

After an effort from Haleigh Finale was saved by DM keeper Marissa Silver, the Colonials managed to earn three successive corners in just over four minutes, however each set piece failed to produce a goal for RMU.

After a fourth unsuccessful corner in the 21' for the visiting side, the Titans made the most of their next opportunity, going up 1-0 in the 24' courtesy of a goal from Taylor Stanley.

Trailing by a goal with under a minute to play in the opening half, RMU caught a break when an own goal for Detroit Mercy leveled the score at 1-1 after 45 minutes of action.

The stalemate was short lived, however, as the Titans managed to convert on their first good chance of the second, re-gaining the lead in the 60' after Tia Jokic cleaned up a rebound in the box to put DM back on top.

RMU answered back with chances from Finale and Chelsea Kingston before Veloso-Lima finally evened it up again for RMU, taking a feed from Gabriella Lecuona before slipping one past Silver to make it 2-2 with just over twenty minutes to play.

With neither team able to find a third goal in regulation, the game headed into extra time with both squads looking to for the golden goal.

The Colonials managed two shots on target in the first OT period, however efforts from Lecuona and Kassidy Fischer were saved.

One more chance from Finale in the game's final minutes failed to yield a goal as both sides settled for a point.
