Moon Township, Pa. - The
Robert Morris women's basketball team fell in its Friday evening return home when it dropped in a 63-44 loss to the IUPUI Jaguars at the UPMC Event Center. The loss moves the Colonials to 6-8 on the year and 4-5 in Horizon League play.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Despite a neck-and-neck start, the Jaguars pulled ahead 19-10 to start the second quarter. RMU was ready to rally with a 6-0 run over 5:22, with
Esther Castedo scoring four of the Colonials six, forcing IUPUI to call their first 30-second timeout of the game. IUPUI took control of the game in the second half, holding as much as a 21-point lead over the Colonials. This came largely from the return of three-time Horizon League Player of the Year, Macee Williams, who posted a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds.
NEARLY PERFECT NIGHT
Senior
Esther Castedo was nearly perfect shooting for the night, going 4-6 in the paint and a perfect 4-4 at the line. The Lugo, Spain native totaled 12 points on the night. Sophomore
Sol Castro led the team with 16 against the Panthers, the most she's scored since posting 19 against the Miami Hurricanes on December 12.
QUOTABLES
"Sometimes it's good to face a player like Macee Williams and not just see it on film, but to truly get that taste of what someone who is truly great at what they do and how they do it. We can use that as a ticket for us to improve and see that first hand, because I do feel like our team has the talent to match up with IUPUI, but we weren't prepared for them today." – Associate Head Coach
Scott Schneider
