PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Robert Morris women's basketball team fell in the second of two games this week against Youngstown State Saturday afternoon at the Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio, falling to the host Penguins by a final score of 61-44. The loss moves the Colonials to 7-10 overall and 5-7 in Horizon League play.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Colonials and the Penguins started this game much like their last meeting, with RMU kicking things off with a 5-0 opening run before the Penguins closed the gap. Neither team held more than a five-point lead until halfway through the second quarter when YSU began to pull ahead, taking a 31-25 lead into the second half. Despite a solid effort, the Colonials were unable to stop the offensive power of the top-seeded Penguins, who got an 18 point performance out of Lily Ritz two days after the post dropped 17 at UPMC Events Center. YSU also saw double-digit efforts from Malia Magestro and Lexi Wagner.
AFTERNOON LEADERS
Senior guard Esther Castedo led the Colonials with 15 points, the eighth time this season she's reached double-digit scoring and ninth time she's led the Colonials in points. The Lugo, Spain native put up a season-high 13 attempts from the field, while junior Ashya Klopfenstein grabbed six boards to lead RMU for the sixth time this season.
