Vikings Early Goal Downs Colonials

RMU plays second-consecutive road game

Cleveland, Ohio – Playing its second-consecutive road game, the Robert Morris University men's soccer team fell 1-0 at Cleveland State on Wednesday night, in conference action.

With the loss, the Colonials fall to 3-7-1 overall this season with a 2-3-1 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Vikings extend their winning streak and improve to 9-1-2 overall behind a 5-0-1 mark in conference action.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
It was a slow opening six minutes as Cleveland State recorded a corner kick and a shot before taking a 1-0 lead at the 7:19-mark. After a miscue by Robert Morris, Hector Gomez made the Colonials pay when he found the back of the net from 25 yards out. Junior Logan Gilley looked to be the equalizer in the 12th minute but saw his shot sail left of the post. The two teams continued to trade shots as they combined for five shots over the next 10 minutes. After two corner kicks and two shots, the Vikings maintained the lead at the half.

In the second half, Robert Morris looked to answer when freshman Anass Hadran fired a shot just two minutes into the half. Cleveland State tried to stretch their lead as they carded three shots and two corner kicks over a 13-minute span. In the 71st minute, sophomore Charlie Lawrence put a shot to the top of the net but was unfortunately saved by goalkeeper Omeed Naeemy. The Colonials continued to fire shots but came up short in the end.
