Can You Dig It?

- RMU Volleyball continues their four-game road trip with the next tilt at Wright State University and Northern Kentucky University this week.

- Danny Doherty is in his first full season leading the Colonials after being named head coach on Dec. 31, 2021. He served as interim head coach for the final four matches of the 2021 campaign.

- RMU is looking to earn their second Horizon League victory. The Colonials won their first against Purdue Fort Wayne (9/30) at the UPMC Events Center. A win against WSU or NKU would be their first conference win on the road.

- Under Coach Doherty, the team has proven to win games when going to five sets. In four games this season going to five sets, the Colonials are 3-1 while outscoring opponents 54-45.

- Individually, junior outside hitter Annie Monaco sits with 350 career digs. She earned single game highs last game against YSU (10/7) posting five assists and two solo blocks.

- Also, freshman setter Kaitlyn Brown produced a single game high in three different categories against YSU (10/7) owning 16 attacks, 15 digs and nine kills.

- Graduate student and outside hitter Alyssa Hudak currently has 250 career digs.

- Upon completion of their matches against Wright State and Northern Kentucky, the Colonials road trip will finish up at Cleveland State (10/18).

The All-Time Series (WSU) - On Thursday, RMU will be seeking their first win ever against Wright State. Since 2008 the Colonials are 0-5 against the Raiders. This will be their first time playing them in Dayton, Ohio since September of 2013. Junior Abby Ryan holds success against the Raiders, boasting 25 kills in three games.

The All-Time Series (NKU) - This will be the fifth ever meeting between these two clubs. RMU is 1-3 overall against the Norse. The team hosted Northern Kentucky last year in a doubleheader (3/22/21) winning 3-0 the first game and losing 3-1 the second game. In the past three games in this series, Alyssa Hudak has dominated, putting down 29 kills.

Upon the Horizon – Junior outside hitter Abby Ryan holds the sixth best number of digs (24) in a four-set match in the Horizon League conference. She also ranks tenth in kills per set with an average of 2.98. Senior libero Allena Carmody holds the second-best number of digs (30) in a four-set match. Carmody is also sixth in the conference in digs per set with an average number of 4.11.

Aces High - The Colonials continue to top the Horizon League standings in service aces, positing an average of 1.8 per set. In 75 sets, the squad owns 135 total aces. In the month of September alone, in four different matches, the Colonials produced 13, 11, 10, and nine service aces in a 4-set match which are top 10 numbers in the conference.

Three of a Kind Aces – In the Horizon League conference, RMU has three players in the top 10 for service aces per set. Annie Monaco is ranked fourth (.4 avg/set), Ashleigh Wallin sits at eighth (.35 avg/set), and Page Gross is tenth (.31 avg/set).

Milestone Watch – Senior Allena Carmody is looking to become the second student-athlete for the Colonials to join the RMU 1,000-Dig Club in as many years. Carmody is at 956 career digs entering this weekend's matches against Wright State and Northern Kentucky. She would become the 14th RMU student-athlete in program history with 1,000 career digs. Last season, the libero had 326 digs in 2021. With 308 this season, she only needs 19 more digs to surpass her personal record for digs in a season.  Abby Ryan comes into this week owning 194 kills on the year. In 2021 she totaled 205 kills, therefore she's 12 away from beating her personal best. She's also 28 digs away from 400 in her career. Last game at YSU (10/7) the junior posted single game highs in kills with 20 and attacks with 59. Sophomore outside hitter Ally Christman now holds 100 kills on the season. She poses with 186 career digs making her 14 away from 200.  Sophomore setter Ashleigh Wallin is at 977 assists, just 23 shy of 1,000 assists at RMU.
