Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU football team opened the road portion of its 2022 Big South schedule Saturday, falling to Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C., 41-10, at Barker-Lane Stadium. The Colonials dipped to 0-6 overall during the 2022 season, including 0-2 in the Big South.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Camels seized control with 27 points in the second quarter to grab a 34-10 advantage at the break. Sophomore kicker
Jayson Jenkins gave RMU a 10-7 lead at the 2:58 mark of the first quarter by connecting for a 44-yard field goal, but Campbell responded with an eight-play 60-yard drive that was capped by a 36-yard touchdown pass from Hajj-Malik Williams to Chaney Fitzgerald just nine seconds into the second quarter. On each of the four drives in the second 15 minutes of action the Camels scored, including a 34-yard touchdown scamper by Lamagea McDowell, a 14-yard touchdown reception by Ezeriah Anderson and a pair of field goals by Caleb Dowden, including a 20-yarder as time expired before the half.
STRIKING FIRST
RMU grabbed the early lead, 7-0, on its first play of its second possession. In motion on the snap, wide receiver
Jamal Hill took a pass in the flat from quarterback
Zach Tanner at the 27-yard line of the Colonials and immediately unleashed a dart that hit wide receiver
Parker Fetterman in stride. Fetterman caught the ball at the 30-yard line of the Camels and waltzed into the end zone for the score to give RMU the early lead. Fetterman finished with a pair of receptions for 68 yards Saturday as eight different Colonials caught a pass.
DEFENSIVELY SPEAKING
For the second consecutive game, a trio of Colonials recorded double-digit tackle efforts, led by linebacker
Joe Casale, notched a game-high 12. Of his stops, two and-a-half were for a loss. Sophomore linebacker
Donovan Parham also put forth the best effort of his young career against Campbell (4-2 / 2-0 Big South), racking up 11 tackles, including his first career sack. Defensive back
William Barber also contributed 11 takedowns, while fellow secondary teammate
Sydney Audiger finished with a game-high six solo tackles among his nine stops. Audiger and Barber each notched a pass breakup and a tackle for loss, while sophomore defensive lineman
Tristan Marois posted a pair of quarterback hurries.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Campbell finished the afternoon with 516 yards of total offense, including 327 through the air. Williams finished 26-for-35 passing for 249 yards and three touchdowns, including a pair to Fitzgerald, who notched four catches for 66 yards. Anderson paced the receiving corps for the Camels with seven catches for 91 yards and a score.
