Road Trip Ends With a Loss to the Vikings

Box Score Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU volleyball team's four game road trip ends with a loss to Cleveland State, 3-0. The Colonials overall record is now 8-14 (.364) during the 2022 season, and 1-9 (.100) in the Horizon League.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED 

Beginning the night, the Colonials got off to the right start with a kill by Abby Ryan and attack error by the Vikings, taking a 2-1 lead. After going down 19-8, head coach Danny Doherty decided to use a timeout. The team bounced back three quick points making it 19-11, but would drop the set 25-12. For the second set, the Colonials had more attacks than the Vikings (34-32) but would lose the set by a score of 25-14. In the third set, the Colonials showed no quit. With the action going back and forth, both teams didn't exceed a lead of two. RMU kept it tied 12-12, but in the end, Cleveland State won the last set 25-16. Each set, RMU improved by adding two more points to the board. 

Individually, for the Colonials they saw a big game out of junior outside hitter Abby Ryan. She produced a double-double of 13 kills and 10 digs. She also led the team in total attacks with 36. Freshman setter Kaitlyn Brown added another 21 assists to her resume and was second on the team in digs with eight. Senior libero Allena Carmody joined Abby Ryan in having 10 digs on the night.

MILESTONE WATCH 
Carmody is looking to become the second student-athlete for the Colonials to join the RMU 1,000 Dig-Club in as many years. Carmody after tonight's match owns 986 career digs making her 14 away. She can surpass the mark this upcoming weekend at home on Friday or Saturday. With 338 digs this season, she's collected more digs than her career best 326 digs from last season. Abby Ryan now holds 218 kills in the 2022 season which is her personal best. Now at 391 career digs she's nine away from 400. Outside hitter Alyssa Hudak spiked four more kills making her 10 away from 800 in her Colonial career.

UP NEXT
RMU will finally return home and play Milwaukee at 6 p.m. (10/21) and Green Bay at 4 p.m. (10/22). Friday's game vs. Milwaukee is a Dating & Domestic Violence Awareness match. Saturday's game will be a pink out to raise awareness in support for breast cancer research.
