RMU Falls at Appalachian State

Quartet of Colonials record double digits in tackles

Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU football team opened a three-game road trip Saturday in Boone, N.C., falling to Appalachian State, 42-3, at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
It was an efficient afternoon for Chase Brice of the Mountaineers, who completed 17 of his 23 passing attempts for 185 yards and four touchdowns to four different receivers. He opened the scoring at the 8:15 mark of the first quarter, capping a 52-yard drive with a 31-yard scoring strike to Dashaun Davis to give Appalachian State an early 7-0 lead. The Colonials trimmed their deficit to 7-3 courtesy of a 45-yard field goal from sophomore Jayson Jenkins, but Brice would hit Tyler Page with a 12-yard score to push the advantage to 14-3.

THE LONG DRIVE
The longest drive of the contest came in the second quarter. The Colonials picked up a pair of first downs before their drive stalled at the 33-yard line of Appalachian State. Fifth-year punter George Souders III pinned the Mountaineers deep in their own territory, placing a punt at the 2-yard line of ASU. Cameron Peoples opened the drive for Appalachian State with a 13-yard burst up the middle, which began in a 98-yard scoring drive that was capped by a 19-yard touchdown pass from Brice to Dalton Stroman. A big play came on 3rd-and-6 at the 47-yard line of the Mountaineers, when Brice found an opening and scrambled 12 yards to pick up a first down and keep the chains moving.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
A quartet of Colonials finished in double digits in tackles Saturday, including three in the secondary. Linebacker Tony Brown notched a game-high 11 tackles, while defensive backs Dakari Cabell, Sydney Audiger and Shakespeare Louis each posted 10 stops. Audiger recorded seven solo takedowns, while Cabell and Louis each notched six, with Louis adding a pass breakup. Linebacker Joe Casale notched RMU's takeaway with an interception, while Cosey Scarebrook notched a sack for RMU.
