Colonials Prepare for Last Away Match

Can You Dig It?
  • RMU Volleyball will play their last away tilt against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies (9-16 / 5-8 #HLVB).
  • The Colonials look to earn their third Horizon League victory this season. They won their first against Purdue Fort Wayne (9/30) and second at IUPUI (10/28).
  • Danny Doherty is in his first full season leading the Colonials after being named head coach on Dec. 31, 2021. He served as interim head coach for the final four matches of the 2021 campaign.
  • Under Coach Doherty the team has proven to win games when going to five sets. In five games this season going to five sets, the Colonials are 4-1 while outscoring opponents 69-54.
  • Upon completion of the Oakland game, RMU will head back home to play Youngstown State (11/4), Wright State (11/11), and Northern Kentucky (11/12) to finish out the regular season.
OAKLAND LINKS The All-Time Series (OAK) – Dating back to Nov. of 1999, RMU is 2-9 all-time vs. Oakland. Senior Allena Carmody in five career games against the Golden Grizzlies owns 54 digs and five service aces. Junior Abby Ryan and senior Alyssa Hudak have both played in five games against Oakland, producing 42 and 38 kills respectively. Hudak owns a career high in service aces (3) and attacks (51) vs. Oakland last season (1/25/21). In the Colonials last game in Rochester, Mich., junior Annie Monaco posted 13 kills, nine digs and a career high in service aces (6) and personal best in attacks with 49. Her six service aces are the most in a four-set match this season in the Horizon League. Freshman Hillarie Adams earned her career high in kills with eight against the Golden Grizzlies on (9/20).
 
Milestone Watch – Abby Ryan so far this season sits at 285 kills, making her 15 away from 300. The outside hitter has spiked 610 all-time for the Colonials. Annie Monaco is close to 400 in two different categories: 380 career kills and 374 digs. Freshman Kaitlyn Brown is four away from 200 digs this season. She posted a career high in assists two matches ago against IUPUI (10/28/22) with 47. Junior middle blocker Emma Brown comes into this week with 104 kills. She's 17 away from earning her personal best in a season.

Upon the Horizon – Allena Carmody remains sixth in the conference in digs per set (3.87). On (10/1) playing IUPUI, the libero defended 30 digs, making that the sixth highest in the conference this season. After a solid weekend for Abby Ryan, she's now seventh in kills per set (3.2) in the Horizon League. Her 21 kills in four sets vs. IUPUI (10/1) is third in the conference. Sophomore Ally Christman holds the second most aces in three sets with five vs. Milwaukee (10/21/22). Her 19 kills vs. N.C. Central (9/16/22) is third best for kills in a three-set match.
 
Three of a Kind Aces – The Colonials have three players in the top 10 in aces per set. Christman is fourth (.4), Ashleigh Wallin is eighth (.35) and Monaco is ninth (.34). RMU overall is fourth in service aces. They've aced 157 times in 99 sets, averaging (1.59) per set.
 
Star Setters – Sophomore setter Ashleigh Wallin and freshman Kaitlyn Brown have teamed up this season producing very good numbers. Brown ranks sixth in the Horizon League in assists per set with (5.44). Wallin is ninth at (5.17). Brown owns 533 total assists and Wallin holds 977 career assists. Since becoming the main setter, Brown is averaging 28.91 assists per game for the past 11 games.
