Opening Tip
  • RMU is in the preparation phase to play in their fourth regular season game at home against the Wheeling University Cardinals. It is the final game of the four-game home stand to open the season. Season tickets for the 2022-23 season are still on sale and can be purchased by calling the RMU Ticket Office at (412) 397-4949.
  • The Colonials last season were 14-15 overall, and 11-11 in Horizon League play. In games at home, RMU was 8-6.
  • Led by Charlie Buscaglia, he's entering his seventh year as head coach for the women's basketball team in 2022-23. RMU earned a 70-56 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne (3/1) in the first round of the 2022 Horizon League Tournament at the UPMC Events Center last season.
  • RMU is returning two starters (Sol Castro, Alejandra Mastral) from the 2021-22 season. Castro led the team in a few categories last season. She was #1 in FG% (.419), averaged 5.4 rebounds per game and totaled 17 blocks on the team. She was also second in points per game with 8.6. Castro was one of two Colonials to start in each of RMU's 28 games last season. In her 45 career games, she's produced an average of 9.1 points per game and 5.4 caroms per contest while converting 43.3 percent (177-for-409) of her shots from the field. Mastral started last season as a freshman playing point guard. She averaged 3.9 points per game.
  • In a vote by Horizon League head coaches, RMU was picked to finish ninth in the conference in the 2022-23 season. Junior forward Sol Castro earned a spot on the 2021 Preseason All-Horizon League Second Team last year.
  • The Colonials are also bolstered by the return of junior guard Mackenzie Amalia, who led RMU in three-pointers (38) last season in averaging 5.2 points per game. She reached 200 career points as a Colonial, last game vs. Waynesburg (11/12).
  • Through three games, RMU's defense has shined causing 89 turnovers and own 38 steals on those turnovers.
  • Opponents are only shooting 3-for-41(.073%) from behind the arc against the Colonials.
  • Leading the Colonials in points so far is sophomore forward Phoenix Gedeon averaging 17.3 points per game. Freshman forward Paris Kirk is second on the team averaging 9.3. Kirk and Gedeon are shooting very well from the field, shooting (.533%) and (.488%) respectfully.
  • The Spaniard guard Alejandra Mastral leads the team in minutes played, logging 93:37.

The All-Time Series (Wheeling) – Monday night will be the first time in school history that the Colonials play the Cardinals. Wheeling finished ninth in the Division 2 Mount East Conference last season with an overall record of 8-20, and 7-15 in conference play. Anna Kowalska is in her first year as the head coach of the Cardinals. All-time against current MEC members, RMU is 8-2. The Colonials are playing their third straight game against an opponent they have not faced before.

Single Game High's vs. Waynesburg (11/12) – Freshman Paris Kirk's 19 points against Waynesburg was her career high. 19 points is the second most in a game for a Colonial through three games this season. Sophomore Danielle Vuletich also scored a career best 15 points vs. the Yellow Jackets. Louella Allana had herself a game scoring a career high six points, three rebounds and three assists. Gedeon Phoenix recorded a career best five steals in last night's game. Freshman Natalie Johnson produced her best game yet, scoring eight points while providing a single game best four steals and two assists.
 
Single Game High's vs. George Mason (11/10) – Gedeon excelled in a close win against the Patriots. She scored a career high 20 points and nine rebounds. Simone Morris recorded a single game best, seven rebounds.  

Single Game High's vs. Saint Francis (11/7) – In the Colonials first game, and win of the season, a few players recorded stellar performances to their resume. Amalia posted a career best six assists and three steals vs. the Red Flash. Rebecca Dwomoh scored a career high 14 points, five assists and three steals.
 
Across The Horizon – The RMU Women's Basketball team features eight international players: Fatim Sarr Ndow (Barcelona, Spain), Louella Allana (Laval, Quebec), Candela Rabadan Solis (Madrid, Spain), Paris Kirk (Kelowna, B.C.), Rebecca Dwomoh (London, England), Phoenix Gedeon (Montreal, Quebec), Sol Castro (Rio Colorado, Argentina) and Alejandra Mastral (Zaragoza, Spain).
 
Welcome Aboard – The Colonials brought in five Freshman. They recruited Fatim Sarr Ndow from the Putnam Science Academy, Louella Allana from TPLS Christian Academy, Candela Rabadan Solis from Complejo Universitario Mas Camarena, Paris Kirk also from Putnam Science Academy and freshman Natalie Johnson of Northpoint. Allana, Solis, Krik and Johnson all have played in the first three games for RMU this season. Kirk leads the freshman in points and rebounds with 28 and 15.
 
Grade A – The RMU women's basketball program continued its tradition of success in the classroom last year earning the No. 2 ranking in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Division I Team Honor Roll. RMU posted a 3.762 grade point average (GPA) during the 2021-22 school year, matching its highest designation thus far. The Colonials also extended their streak of six consecutive seasons with a top four ranking in the WBCA Academic Top 25, remaining the only D1 school to do so over that stretch. This unprecedented run began in 2016-17 (3.726) with a national runner-up finish, followed by a No. 4 ranking in 2017-18 (3.748). RMU posted a 3.713 GPA in 2018-19, a 3.767 GPA in 2019-20, and a 3.824 GPA last season, coming in at No. 3 each year.
